New Delhi, Nov 8: "Only Congress writers are returning awards in the name of intolerance. They have taken favours from the Congress in the past. Now they are showing their gratitude by returning awards.” said renowned Kannada author Prof S L Byrappa in New Delhi.
S L Byrappa was participating in the ‘March for India’ rally led by famous Bollywood actor Anupam Kher protesting against the voices raised in the recent past over ‘Intolerance’ in the country. Byrappa spoke to the media during the rally.
“There are two types of writers. One type of writers concentrates on their creative work without involving themselves in politics. The other type is of politics writers. They love politics more than anything. Creative work is secondary for them. The writers who have been returning awards belong to this category. They do not want the nation to prosper. They are simply repaying their debt to the Congress people. They are sure that Narendra Modi will come back again because of his achievements. They do not want it to happen. So they are returning awards,” Byrappa said.
“Was there no intolerance during the Congress government? So far 36 writers have returned awards. But there are more than thousand writers who have received awards from Karnataka and central academies. That means only 2% of the writers have returned awards, which is a negligible number. But unfortunately the media is highlighting their names,” Byrappa added.
“Supreme court and Gujarat high court also have said that there should be uniform civil code in the country. Even in relation to the beef ban, the courts have come to unanimous decisions several times. Are the courts intolerant and communal? When we want right things in the country, we are branded as communal.” Byrappa concluded.
Kannada Film director Nagabharana and former high court judge Justice Rama Jois from Karnataka also participated in the march.
