Experts to create assistive devices for persons with disabilities

New Delhi, Nov 18 (IANS): Technology and design experts will create assistive products for persons with disabilities in the form of prototypes in a 60 day programme organised by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is supporting the programme called the "Enable Makeathon" in which participants will design and create, over 60 days from November 2015 to January 2016, new assistive devices for persons with disabilities living in rural areas across the world.

"This programme is required to come up with solutions that could help society overcome the physical social and psychological barriers, which prevent persons with disabilities from attaining their full potential," Mukesh Jain, joint secretary in the ministry's department of empowerment of persons with Disabilities, said.

The department belongs to the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

Among the 138 participants who have registered for the programme, 84 are from India.
