Udupi, Aug 1: Udupi district in-charge secretary and Labour Department secretary Rohini Sindhuri has directed officials to expedite the repair of roads damaged by heavy rainfall and ensure smooth vehicular movement for the public.
She was speaking at a review meeting held at Dr V S Acharya Hall, Rajathadri, Manipal, which focused on natural calamity preparedness and the progress of various departmental works.




Sindhuri stressed the importance of promptly sharing daily weather forecasts from the Meteorological Department with the public, particularly with fishermen heading to sea. She urged that fishermen be strictly advised to wear life jackets while venturing out and avoid fishing activities during turbulent weather conditions.
Regarding the development of fishing infrastructure, she instructed the formulation of an expansion plan for the Malpe fishing harbour to support ongoing fishing activities. Additionally, she emphasized the need to provide essential basic amenities at the newly developed Hejamady port to facilitate fishing operations.
Expressing concern over recurring sea erosion along coastal areas, she called for permanent scientific solutions to address the issue. She also directed officials to accurately assess the damage caused to paddy and horticulture crops due to rains and ensure timely compensation for affected farmers.
Pointing to ongoing culvert construction works in rural areas, she instructed officials to resume these projects immediately after the rains subside and complete them on a priority basis.
Sindhuri acknowledged complaints from the public regarding difficulties in obtaining 9/11E land records required for new building constructions due to certain regulatory hurdles. She suggested that the issue could be resolved by proposing suitable exemptions in the rules and directed officials to send a recommendation to the government at the earliest.
Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, she noted that out of 525 household tap connection projects planned in gram panchayat jurisdictions, 487 have been completed. She urged for the swift completion of the remaining 38 projects.
The meeting was attended by MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, deputy commissioner Swaroop T K, zilla panchayat CEO Prateek Boyle, various district-level officers, and others.
