Mangaluru, Nov 24: Thieves broke into Our Lady of Mercy Church, Fajir here on the intervening night between Monday November 23 and Tuesday November 24.

The thieves gained entry by breaking open the main door of the church.

Police sources initially said that a laptop, Rs 75,000 from offering box and some other items had been stolen.

However, parish priest Fr Valerian Pinto informed daijiworld that no cash was stolen, and that the articles taken away included Tabernacle with three Consecrated Ciboriums, six Ciboriums from the almirah, four chalices and one laptop that is used for church hymns. "No money has been stolen and there is no damage other than desecration to the Holy Eucharist and holy vessels. The total value of the articles is around Rs 78,000.00," he said.

Luckily for the police, the thieves have been captured in the CCTV cameras installed in the church premises.

As per the CCTV images, the theft occured at around 1.30 am.

The theft came to light on Tuesday morning when the priest came to the church.

Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, vicar general Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu and other priests visited the place, and so also varado priests. Local panchayat president and other local leader have condemned the act.

Konaje police arrived at the spot and registered a case.

Gentleman situation will go worst year by year..youth unable to get job..reasons ECONOMY RUNS WITH MONEY..most of the funds blocked in DONATIONS in temples, mosques and church..Saint and mullah and swamy..means they left the desire of life.. But what we see is swamy and bishop and mullahs doing business with charity money.

So my kind request all those people please do not donate your hard earned money to MULLAH OR CHURCH OR TEMPLE..

please do it by yourself..provide job to any youth..

In most cases such thieves are either plumbers / masons / electricians / milk man / helpers etc who have worked there earlier and know everything in advance. So it is easy to catch them.

Nowadays thieves have no respect of prayer houses but only think of looting .What would they do with the ciborium and chalices?can they sell it?or use to drink Bier? How could Police tell about the theft of Money when priest says no Money is stolen?Thatswhy should never believe Police what they say sometimes.Afterall in churches they wont find much if ever Gold as in temples. But they have touched places and things which they dont have to do.May God forgive them and bringback things and may ask God to forgiveness.

Totally understand.. It hurts deeply to see the holy place desecrated....however the thieves it doesn't matter if its a church/temple or mosque.. they get on with their job.. but its very unwise in my opinion to view it with communal angle.. We need peace in Mangalore and not division..

The governments are insisting to install CCTV's and it is a good thing.

A lady manager of a bank was severely beaten by a thief in the ATM in Bangalore and the CCTV is clearely showing the person's full face and actions in the ATM.

    WHERE IS HE?!
    STILL UN-CAUGHT.
    ASTONISHING THIS IS WHAT.

    Tilak,

In Churches, there aren't huge collection boxes into which people keep dropping money. The collections are made during each service and the amount is counted on daily basis and entered in books maintained. Probably such collections were kept in a box which got looted hence the authorities knew exactly how much money was there.

Oh Tilaka, if someone robs from the church where I attend weekly service, our Priest can also tell more or less how much money is gone. Because that is average collection of the week. It differs hardly Rs 100 to 1000, and here also Priest didn't give figure like Rs. 754321 and Paise 90
