Obama urges Muslims leaders to speak up against ISIS

Washington, Dec 7 (PTI): Asserting that the ISIS does not speak for Islam, US President Barack Obama has urged Islamic leaders across the world to speak out against the terrorist outfit and its ideology.

In a rare address to the nation from his Oval Office, Obama also urged his countrymen not to discriminate against people based on religion, as being feared inside America in the aftermath of a radicalised couple killing 14 people in San Bernardino in California.
Obama described the incident as an "act of terrorism".

"So far, we have no evidence that the killers were directed by a terrorist organisation overseas or that they were part of a broader conspiracy here at home," Obama said referring to the two suspect Pakistani national Tashfeen Mailk, and her husband, Syed Rizwan Farook, of Pakistan origin.

"But it is clear that the two of them had gone down the dark path of radicalisation, embracing a perverted interpretation of Islam that calls for war against America and the West. They had stockpiled assault weapons, ammunition, and pipe bombs. So this was an act of terrorism designed to kill innocent people," Obama asserted.

In a passionate speech from the Oval Office, Obama urged Americans not to turn against one another by letting this fight be defined as a war between America and Islam. "That, too, is what groups like ISIL (another name for ISIS) want," he noted.

"ISIL does not speak for Islam. They are thugs and killers, part of a cult of death. And they account for a tiny fraction of a more than a billion Muslims around the world, including millions of patriotic Muslim-Americans who reject their hateful ideology," he said.

"Moreover, the vast majority of terrorist victims around the world are Muslims. If we're to succeed in defeating terrorism, we must enlist Muslim communities as some of our strongest allies, rather than push them away through suspicion and hate," Obama said.
That does not mean denying the fact that an extremist ideology has spread within some Muslim communities. It's a real problem that Muslims must confront without excuse, he asserted.

"Muslim leaders here and around the globe have to continue working with us to decisively and unequivocally reject the hateful ideology that groups like ISIL and Al Qaeda promote, to speak out against not just acts of violence, but also those interpretations of Islam that are incompatible with the values of religious tolerance, mutual respect, and human dignity," Obama said.

But, just as it is the responsibility of Muslims around the world to root out misguided ideas that lead to radicalisation, it is the responsibility of all Americans, of every faith, to reject discrimination, he asserted.

"It is our responsibility to reject religious tests on who we admit into this country. It's our responsibility to reject proposals that Muslim-Americans should somehow be treated differently. Because when we travel down that road, we lose. That kind of divisiveness, that betrayal of our values plays into the hands of groups like ISIL," Obama said.

Fact about US and its wars:

Since the United States was founded in 1776, she has been at war during 214 out of her 235 calendar years of existence. In other words, there were only 21 calendar years in which the U.S. did not wage any wars.

    To put this in perspective:

    * Pick any year since 1776 and there is about a 91% chance that America was involved in some war during that calendar year.

    * No U.S. president truly qualifies as a peacetime president. Instead, all U.S. presidents can technically be considered “war presidents.”

    * The U.S. has never gone a decade without war.

    * The only time the U.S. went five years without war (1935-40) was during the isolationist period of the Great Depression.

I remember of the stories i read in the news the other day. Few syrian families were given asylum in Uruguay(south american country). after nearly 6 months stay over there, they are saying that they want to leave the country to some european county. Instead of being grateful for the generosity shown by the Uruguay and its people, father of one of the family was complaining that the living condition isnt good, no good job, he is unable to provide for his family. Guess how big is his family??? he has 16 kids!!!! And this guy says that he cant provide for his family. Just think... in which country would a normal middle class man would be able to support 16 kids and provide for them and educate them.....

You have a good point. But you have to know that there is a difference. Most (if not all) are very secular countries. There is a clear separation of church and state. When these western countries are mentioned as christian nations it means that they are influenced by Judeo Christian values. But in india there is a move to go along the lines of theocracy. Banning of beef is the perfect example. Some people justify by saying that if saudi can ban pork we should be banning beef. Do these people really see saudi as a role model??

I would have no problem with the India being a hindu nation. But that wont happen. Simply because having a democracy and calling it a nation only reffering to single religion is in itself contradictory. And the main reason you would have india labeled as hindu nation because you would want to ligitimize hindu traditions... which in turn violates one of the core principles of democracy i.e separation of church and state (here i would say separation of temple and state). Democracy will only work if it is secular.... or else all of its citizens are of same religion and same sect.

My point was very simple even if we are secular country what is the problem in calling it as Hindu country ? Whether it is Hindu, Christian, Muslim or Sikh we are Indians. But being Indian we are know as Hindu nation across the world. It's only the people within our country dont wanna call it Hindu nation, but people from other countries call us as hindus. Its the mindset of people just calling Hindu nation they will also become hindu which is false.

That fact itself makes India rise about all the other nations of the world.

One more factor that may have contributed to the in global oil prices is the sale of oil by ISIS. If ISIS have to sell the oil (to fund their operations) got from captured Iraqi oilfields then they will have to sell it cheap if they expect any party to buy it. This will pull global oil prices downwards.

Also the in global oil prices is negatively affecting Russia due to loss in revenue much, much more than it is affecting other oil rich nations like Saudi Arabia etc..Hence Russia have even more reason to eliminate ISIS rather than just for supporting Assad so as to retain it's only presence in the Middle East.
Further, there is also the real threat of some of these ISIS fighters joining forces with terrorists from Chechnya to further spread the menace of terrorism in Russia.
So Putin has a busy time ahead of him.

In the initial stages the US secretly supported ISIS with the sole objective of toppling Assad of Syria, who had long been a staunch ally of Russia. But Obama didn’t realize that ISIS will rise to such notoriety and pose a threat to their own mentors. The US haven’t yet learned lesson from Osama bin Laden, whom they clandestinely supported when he was fighting against the Soviets in Afghanistan. They are feeling the real heat and disappointment now since Russia has intervened more with the objective of protecting Assad rather than destroying ISIS. The US is obliged to stand against the ISIS before it's too late.

How can the USA trust the Rebels. These rebels ended up with the ISIS.

Even today the rebels are the ISIS but these regime's are not known the inner voice of those rebels.

That is the reason rebels should be eliminated to eliminate ISIS.

Turkey is playing double games. Buying oil from ISIS and bombing Kurdish forces and supporting ISIS.

IN SYRIA IT IS A COWARDICE GAME GOING ON. ISRAEL ALSO DOESN'T LIKE THE THE REGIMES OF IRAN AND ASSAD.

There is absolutely no doubt that ISIS have indirect and tacit support from some nations (or from rogue groups within those nations) who have vested interests. We cannot say for sure who they are as everything is happening covertly. However, by deduction the proof of this is that there is no way ISIS can have so much money to fund high tech weaponry, professionals to manage and operate their cyber operations and men and women to fight on the ground. One source of their money is from the oil fields they captured from the Iraqi government but then, who is buying ISIS oil which they are selling in the black market ? Obviously it must be from some of the supporting nations (or rogue groups from there).
It also seems like some nations (or rogue groups) who were initially indirectly supporting them have realized their support has backfired because ISIS are brutal and ruthless killers radicalizing their followers with some distorted ideology under the name of Islam and Sharia. One reason why they may have received support initially could be to counter the growing power/influence of Shias in the region (Iraqi Shias,Hezbollah in Syria etc.) with the backing of Iran as ISIS claim to be Sunni although in reality they have no religion at all.

I also add to my above comments that Israel do consider Iran a bigger threat than other Sunni majority Islamic nations. I do not intend to infer that Israel are one of the nations behind this but it must be borne in my mind and given due consideration when trying to assess the truth behind ISIS.

    But who are actual terrorist?

Killing innocent in tens or hundreds or killing those in millions?

By the way, Islam doesn't permit to kill even a single innocent. So it is very clear both the sides are at wrong end.

The more injustice one causes the more destruction he calls. One cannot blow out the fire in a building with more Fire.

Its of no use speaking up or down against these terror cultists.
It is time to wage Jihad against them by their own community to stop this perverts from creating hell on earth.
Then only the Modern day principle of "Live & Let Others Live" will succeed.
Time & again its has proven the migrants from Asian region from many years back to present of a particular community are turning as foot soldiers of Hate Ideology. If Obama ignores it then this chain reaction of mayhem won't stop in near future.
Obama is the first person who armed them & let them persecute the majority of people along with his Gulf partners, now lamenting about their acts is just an eyewash. His own Credentials are under scrutiny for his bias.

By your statement your agreeing that USA & Israel are responsible for such cause of destruction.

When a building catches fire we need water to resist it but not more fire. The policy of western world especially Israel and USA has destroyed few countries of Middle East.

First they snatched the land from Palestine and made them suffer day by day like hell. Later raised the lies of WMD in Iraq, which created an massive destruction in Iraq. Then Lebanon, Libya, and now Syria. What next Iran? Jordan? Egypt?

The dream of Greater Israel of Oded Yinon Plan is by either hook or crook is witnessed here.

For more information on it read "Greater Israel": The Zionist Plan for Middle East by Global Research to understand what the ground realities.

There is utter confusion in the minds of leaders of either to support or oppose ISIS atrocities!!!

Many have soft corner towards ISIS who are hoping to turn the world into one religion by killing or converting so called non-believers!!! At the same time majority of those who killed are believers..!

It's world power struggle and each one are playing in their own way!

I suggest you to read "Greater Israel: The Zionist Plan for Middle East" by Global Research, will show you the true face.

If you still don't understand the truth then it's your fate. But the truth is Western World destroyed Middle East. It's destruction started since 1967 when they snatched the land of Palestine for so called thrown out Jews of Germany. This was a suppression on weaker. Powerful countries snatching the land from weaker.

Is revealing the facts is encouraging terrorism? By the way have you seen the plights of Palestinians today? The misery life what they are living in their own land by the day by day brutality from Israel and its Zionist forces? Nobody cares it, coz they are weaker and they are Muslims. If Palestinians fighting for their rights is called as Terrorism then the freedom struggle what happened in each country should be considered as terrorism.

By putting forward the history, I am trying to show that to deal with terrorism is not the bombarding solution, but to find the true reason and work on the true reasons to provide equal justice.

One cannot win a human heart by providing injustice at one hand and talk of bombarding civilizations at other hand. This way one cannot win terrorism. Find the root cause and solve it peacefully. By following this, If not immediately Insha Allah one can expect the peace gradually.
