Mumbai, Aug 21: Taking a tough stand, the BCCI on Tuesday sacked Kapil Dev as Chairman of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for aligning with the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL) and also barred the defecting players from playing in international and domestic tournaments.

The decision to terminate the services of Kapil Dev, who heads the ICL Executive Board, was taken at the BCCI's Special General Body meeting here.

NCA vice-Chairman Ajay Shirke has been appointed as Acting Chairman and a new appointment for the post will be made at the Annual general Meeting on September 28, Board sources said.

The sources said that Kapil Dev's dismissal will come into effect immediately and all the players who have aligned with ICL would be banned from playing for the country or for the states.

The BCCI's stringent measures came a day after the ICL announced its initial list of 51 players, which has West Indies batting great Brian Lara, former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul Haq and three of his teammates - Mohd Yousuf, Imran Farhat and Abdul Razzaq - as the star attractions.

South African cricketers Lance Klusener and Nicky Boje were among the seven overseas recruits for the multi-million dollar league, funded by media baron Subhash Chandra.

ICL is a great start to bring some professionalim in Indian cricket currently managed by crooks who have no knowledge of sports and are just counting the money. How ever I wish ZEE group also encourages other "REAL" sports in India like Football, Hockey, the athletes..etc, rather than the overhyped cricket.

What the BCCI wants to prove by this crooked move? It clearly shows that BCCI is not interested in developing the game in India. Afterall it is run by a politician who is a failure in everything except accumulating wealth.

BCCI should be scrapped and ICL should be supported provided ICL is started for the best interest of the game. Due to politics in the selection committee of BCCI real talent is not getting proper recognition. Why we have failed to produce genuine allround cricket team that we had in 1983 with really committed players or why we have failed to produce a genuine allrounder after 1983?

BCCI is interested only in money. The way our current Indian team is performing in England is the best example of malfunctioning of BCCI. BCCI has no right to ban the players who join ICL. If they do this then the day is not far where BCCI will go into bankcruptcy.

Kudos to Mr. Kapil, Keep the good work going. Game of cricket should be managed by cricketers and not politicians who know nothing about it but join the governing boards because of their political clout and make a fast buck.

What else BCCI can do. They will eat their own pie one day and that day is not far. BCCI management has no ethics of cricket but money.

Kapil has taken a very bold stand. India needs leaders like Kapil. Cricket board should be given in the hands of Cricketers not dirty politicians. We wish you all the best Kapil.
