Mangaluru, Dec 10: Noted entrepreneur Pradeep Pai on Wednesday December 9 released 'Teesa Kaniyo', the maiden translation work by former president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and dramatist Kasargod Chinna, in a ceremony at the Bhuvanendra Kalamantap of Canara High School, Dongerkeri here.

In his address, Pai complimeted Chinna for his work. "Chinna is a man of wisdom and a multitalented personality. Being a good organiser he has conducted many events of Konkani all over the state and hats off to tim for that."

Senior journalist Manohar Prasad inaugurated the programme. In his address, he explained how a short story can influence a person. "The short stories originated from the kitchen when mother fed their babies. A short story induces knowledge of the writer when you read.

"It is an art to write a story. I am sure that Chinna has translated the 30 short stories of Kannada to Konkani with perfection," he said.

Renowned Konkani poet and Sahitya Akademi award winner Melvyn Rodrigues explained the difficulties of translating a short story. "Translating a work from one language to another is a difficult job as one should take care of its essence. When you write an article you have all the freedom as you are the only person involved. But when you translate, you have the author of the original text and you should translate it within some limits. A translation is a unique experience," he said.

Convenor of Konkani chair in Mangalore University Dr Jayavanth Nayak presented an analysis of the book.

Editor of Konkani magazine Kodiyal Khobar Venkatesh Baliga, president of Konkani Bhasha Mandal Geetha Kini, president of Konkani Sanksrotik Sangh Vidya Kamath were present.
