Chemmanur Jewellery Heist - Prime Accused Manish Shetty Arrested

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore (GA)

Bangalore, Sep 5: The CCB police finally achieved the much-needed breakthrough in the Chemmanur Jewellery robbery case when they arrested the prime accused Manish Shetty in Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday September 4.  The police have also recovered 5 kilograms of gold from him.

With his arrest most of the accused in the case have been nabbed.  Earlier Dakshina Kannada, Chikmagalur and Hassan police had arrested 6 persons in various places and recovered almost 14 kilograms of gold.  But police had failed to nab Manish Shetty who was at large with 10 kilograms of gold.

But the CCB police had certain clues about his whereabouts.  The major problem was that he was constantly on move from one state to the other including Maharastra, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.  But a sure tip-off from police informers helped the police to trace him finally in a lodge at Coimbatore.

Manish Shetty who hails from Dakshina Kannada district has been facing several robbery, theft and even murder cases in Mumbai.  He was arrested and put behind bars by Mumbai police sometime ago.  But once he was released on bail, he had once again gone on to his old trade.

As reported earlier in these columns, it was on August 11 that a group of 6 robbers led by Manish had entered Chemmanur Jewerllers at Kammanahalli and had decamped with 36 kilograms of gold and Rs 3 lac in cash.  However, the act was well recorded on the camera which was positioned in the jewellery shop.

The first breakthrough in the case was achieved when inspector Jayanth Shetty of DK police arrested one Umesh Shetty in Mudipu near Mangalore while investigating Subba Rao murder case.  Once he spilled the beans, various police teams managed to arrest several others.
