Mangalore, Sep 8: Speaking at an informal meet here with media persons on Friday, 7 September, P Tamilvannan, chairman,  New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) informed that the NMPT infrastructure will be developed at a cost of Rs 24 crore.

The work mainly consists of asphalting and concreting of roads on the port premises. The cost estimation has been approved by the port authorities. The roads to be concreted also include the stretch leading to Tannirbhavi from KIOCL main gate, off National Highway 17, at Kulur, Tamilvannan added.

Further expressing his apprehension Tamilvannan stated that the port authorities had realized that the roads on the port premises would come under pressure and therefore they were planning to develop roads within and outside the port, he added.

With regard to the parking terminal, the chairman of the NMPT stated that the port was handling an average of 1,100 Lorries carrying iron ore fines, every day. The port had already commissioned a road along its compound, running parallel to NH 17, from Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Limited’s main gate near Kulur, up to the main entrance of the port at Mallya gate.

Further he said lorries transporting iron ore fines were using this road to enter the NMPT.The port had created a truck-parking terminal near the Customs office, Tamilvannan added.
