Police should punish these drivers in such a way that the other drivers should think twice prior to overtaking ,not simply releasing such drivers after the arrest.

Vehicles through the negligent driving killing others should be off the road, Law needs to be framed in this regard. Drivers should not be given licence further.

We get to read the accident news always. Inpsite of several accidents our RTO or elected MP, MLA’s have not taken any keen interest to curb this disaster. We loose lives, since many protest having been taken up for the stoppage of this manganese trucks, no action from the government since these trucks are owned by corrupted politicians. We should have mass protest for the safety measures and to stop even the dreadful project Nagarjuna thermal power plant.

It is really sad to hear about such horrible accidents.Due to the sheer negligence of one person three people dead and many injured. We only have to blame one another. The need of the moment is some good education from the R.T,O to let know the drivers the safety on road.Heavy vehicles should never be allowed to over take.Heavy fines should be imposed on them.

R.T.O won't do anything unless accident involving the death of their senior officers children or any of the ministers chirdren. No value for common people life. People will forget this incident in a few days and by that time there will be one more...

No end to these disasters. One can remember that the dangerous Balai Paade junction near Udupi is only renovated after the accident involving the death of realatives of Udupi's promoninet lawyer.

RTO's are fit to trouble Light Motor Vehicle owners only.since long time iron ore trucks are main cause for accidents.

The ORE lorries are symbols of corruption in the system and also symbols of DEATH. Each lorry on the road reminds us of the amount evaded in taxes and the possible death threat to other road users. The movement of these lorries should be banned once for all.

The one and only one solution is 2 way traffic should not be on a single road. That reduces accidents by 90%.

You have been highlighting the dangerous issues from longtime. But however the authorities have no concern and just simply pass rules only to be flouted.Nobody is questioning the mine lorry transporters who have played havoc with the roads and have caused many deaths.

None of the authorities seem to bother and they have no concern for the lives of the common man.It is just pathetic to see the condition of the roads, the so called NH.

It is indeed a nightmare travellng on the Mangalore / Udupi Route. Mr. Raphael D'Souza suggestions are good. The problem lies not only with the Drivers / Bus Owners - but to a large extent with the corrupt RTO and Police Department.

The only solution to this is for the KSRTC to take over this very lucrative route. This will not happen as the local Politicians / RTO / Police as well as the Governmmnet will stand to lose. Stringent punishment for the guilty drivers / those responsible is also required.

After prolonged proceedings in the Police Dept. and in Court, when the question of releasing the seized vehicles from Police custody comes, it is a source of income to individuals i n the Police Dept. Hence such accidents are welcome as far as Police personnel is concerned.

It is sad to hear about one more accident on NH17. I have had the experience of travelling by express bus from Udupi to Mangalore during my recent visit to my hometown and would like to share my experience with DW readers. Every 5 minutes an express bus leaves from Udupi to Mangalore and vice versa. Drivers overtake, swerve, accelerate over the limit and continuously honk to ensure that the following bus does not overtake and pick up the passengers.

Drivers of express buses and heavy vehicles do not have any regard for small vehicles especially two wheelers coming from the opposite direction. In the absence clear road marking, drivers behave as though they have the full right to drive in any side of the road. The narrow and old bridge of Udyavar with its broken and dented structure is the witness of these reckless and careless drivers who overtake despite the clear road signs.

Most of the drivers of these express buses are young and do not have enough experience. The bus owners should ensure that the drivers have at least 5 years experience driving in suburban roads. Administration should stop the movement of heavy vehicles during peak hours say 8.00am to 10.00am and 4.00pm to 6.00pm between these two cities. Human lives are more precious than few thousand rupees lost in revenue.

Finally, traffic police should impose heavy penalty to the reckless drivers who do not respect traffic rules and signs. DW team which is already doing a great service to the community can save innocent lives by taking up this issue with the administration.
