Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SM)

Udupi, Sep 14: Nine students of Udupi and Mangalore districts have been selected by National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), as National Talent Scholars for the year 2007 and will receive scholarships of Rs 500/- per month starting from July 2007 till their PhD.

Among them, seven were trained at MICE here.  The other two students selected from the district are Arjun Raghunath from LRIS, Brahmavar, near here and Tejas D P from Sharada Residential School, here in the 8th standard category.

NCER awards 1000 scholarships to the talented students of Class X each year and Class VIII from last year through its national talent search scheme. Later, they nurture the talent by way of providing financial assistance in the form of monthly scholarship.

National talent search examination is conducted in two stages. In the first stage, that is the state level. The written examination is held in the month of November. 4000 students are selected from different states of India.

300 students in each category (VIII and X) from Karnataka were selected in the examination held in November 2006. Twenty seven among them were MICE Students. 

In the second stage, that is the national-level, the NCERT conducts a national-level written exam for the students selected at the state-level and shortlists 2000 students in each category for the interview.
