Mangalore, Sep 21: Mangalore branch of the Population Services International (PSI), would partner with other organisations to take Voluntary Counseling and Testing Centre (VCTC) services to the doorstep of the community particularly women.

Until now, people travelled to clinics or Saadhana van to avail HIV testing services. ‘‘Mobile VCTC with technical staff is willing to travel anywhere in the city and provide HIV testing, counseling in rooms provided by partner organisations,’’ informs Project Manager Abhilash Philip.

A ‘VCTC’ tableau creating awareness about Mobile VCTC was launched by the Hongirana Network for Positive People Seema Mathias near Rao and Rao Circle. The tableau jeep featuring photos of Saadhan VCTC van and HIV messages encourages public to avail HIV testing and counselling at hands of experts.

The tableau would move around the entire city for the next 10 days. PSI staff will also pin red ribbons on people, a symbol of solidarity with HIV cause.

Seema Mathias said; ‘‘in order to eradicate HIV from the district, it is important that women also avail HIV testing and counselling.’’ She complimented PSI for going to residential areas and communities with VCTC services. Philip explained that in tune to the concept of mobile, the tableau was launched at the busy tempo stand. ‘‘We decided to reach people instead of waiting for people to reach us,’’ he added.

‘‘At Saadhan clinic, we not only reveal HIV status of an individual but also suggest ways to lead an active and fulfilled life irrespective of their status,’’ he informed. The entire counseling and testing process takes one hour only.

For HIV testing, people can call at 0824-6565049.
