Kundapur: Woman killed by speeding Xylo while crossing road, locals catch driver

Kundapur, Mar 17: In a tragic incident, a woman was killed on the spot when a speeding Xylo tourist vehicle hit her while she was crossing the national highway at Kannukere in front of Raghavendrswamy Math, Tekkatte here on Thursday March 17 evening.

The deceased has been identified as Laxmi Madhyastha (52), wife of Srikanth Madhyastha A, a resident of Makkibettu.

Laxmi had gone out to get milk when the fatal accident took place. When she was crossing the national highway, the speeding vehicle that was being driven from Kundapur, hit and dragged her about one hundred meters away from the accident spot. A seriously injured Laxmi died on the spot.

It is said that seven students from Malpe had hired the Xylo to visit Kodachadri.

The Xylo driver fled without stopping. The locals who were at the spot chased the vehicle and intercepted it near the railway bridge at Madhuvana. The locals then beat up the driver and handed him over to Kota police.

A case has been registered in Kota police station.

The body has been sent to Kundapur government hospital for post-mortem.

Laxmi is survived by her husband, two sons and a daughter.

    Very sad indeed. Loss of life to negligent behavior of others can not be condoned.

    But, if we say it is a National Highway, they should have speed limits and proper road signs mentioning them. If need be there should be speed breakers in more populated areas. Govt can't expect a driver to self regulate the speed on a highway.

    Unless Heavy fine of Blood Money and 14 years Jail term not imposed to such a reckless Drivers these type of Accidents can not avoid in our Country. May Her Soul Rest in Peace.

    We are not living in any Islamic country. We have our own privalage. If something goes wrong without knowing itself is called as 'accident'. Nobody doing purposely. Everybody knows well after consequences. Better we pressure at least government to provide us good infrastructure which is absent. Latter on we can blame on others.

    Should not this road as a highway..as more of residents around. More of accidents occur in this place. No propper road planning for pedestrians. Vehicles plying from all the directions in rapid speed. Atleast use sign boards in some junctions. Let locals do something at least for some good cause. I dont think so divider is in this place at least it will be safe. What happened is not good..still after all its god's wish.
