Kundapur, Mar 17: In a tragic incident, a woman was killed on the spot when a speeding Xylo tourist vehicle hit her while she was crossing the national highway at Kannukere in front of Raghavendrswamy Math, Tekkatte here on Thursday March 17 evening.
The deceased has been identified as Laxmi Madhyastha (52), wife of Srikanth Madhyastha A, a resident of Makkibettu.
Laxmi had gone out to get milk when the fatal accident took place. When she was crossing the national highway, the speeding vehicle that was being driven from Kundapur, hit and dragged her about one hundred meters away from the accident spot. A seriously injured Laxmi died on the spot.
It is said that seven students from Malpe had hired the Xylo to visit Kodachadri.
The Xylo driver fled without stopping. The locals who were at the spot chased the vehicle and intercepted it near the railway bridge at Madhuvana. The locals then beat up the driver and handed him over to Kota police.
A case has been registered in Kota police station.
The body has been sent to Kundapur government hospital for post-mortem.
Laxmi is survived by her husband, two sons and a daughter.
