Mangalore, Sep 28: When the time of election comes, there is handful of work for all the government employees including the police. This time too, during the local body election, thousands of government employees and police force have been deputed for the smooth flow of election process.

Normally, government schools are selected as voting booths. Hence the voting officers have to spend almost a day in these schools. They have to adjust with the infrastructure available in that school.

But the case is entirely different at the Padil voting booth. In spite of several schools in the area, the election officials selected a shed located inside the forest department land here.

Officials who came here for election duty, almost experienced a remote forest environment. The sheds have been constructed by using aluminum sheets. Almost all the sides of these sheds are fully open. Thursday September 27 night which they spent in this shed, was nothing short of hell for them.

“Though there were many schools around this area, why the ‘forest’ has been selected for voting?” questioned the officers.

A total of 6 voting booths have been set up here with 30 personnel to carry on the voting procedures.

There are about 6 toilets placed before the sheds. But the quality of the water is so bad, that one cannot use this even for bathing purpose. They have to make arrangements for food too. This is also a biggest challenge for them. Whatever the problems are, they have to perform their duty.

The election process in the area was jolted for sometime after a cobra was found in the shed as voting was going on.  For a moment everyone was frightned and everything came to a standstill till the cobra went out peacefully.
