Mangaluru, Mar 19: A splendid ceremony marked the ninth graduation ceremony and annual day celebration of AJ Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, held at the College auditorium here on Saturday March 19.

The event was inaugurated by medical education minister Sharanaprakash Rudrappa Patil (S R Patil).

Addressing the gathering, S R Patil said, "All students go through hard work and difficulties in order to complete their graduation. This profession is unique. This profession itself is a service to mankind.

"Days ahead are not so easy for medical graduates as most of them aspire for postgraduation and face tougher exams. We should always remember that this profession is a responsibility. Medical profession is the most respected profession. Patients will look up to you as saviours. And society gives lot of respect to doctors. We owe a lot to the society as well," he added.

"To be successful in life, you need to have knowledge, communication skills and compassion for patients. Treat your patients with utmost care. We should always keep in mind that money should never come in the way of treating patients. The satisfaction which you get after you treat a patient successfully cannot be compared to money. We should remember that we have a commitment towards society," he said.

"We should salute our forefathers for opening up higher education. With private and government institutions, we have good atmosphere for higher education in state in comparison to facilities available in the northern parts of country.

"We need more doctors to serve the ever increasing population of the country. As doctors, we need to give ourselves in service of rural areas at least for one-and-a-half years. This should be our commitment. I am trying to bring better transparency in the conduct of the whole department and trying to bring more postgraduation seats and also undergraduate seats in the state. We are opening six government medical colleges. We have already set up three medical colleges and three more will be established soon. CM Siddaramaiah has also announced setting up of one more medical college in Bengaluru city. We are trying to give more emphasize to providing quality education to our children. We are creating government super-speciality hospitals to cater to the poor of the state. Be compassionate to poor and serve the rural parts of the country," he urged.

On this occasion, 78 graduate students from the batch of 2010 and 58 postgraduates of 2012 batch received their degree certificates from the minister and other dignitaries.

Heartfelt congratulations to all the students on their completion of their graduation. I do agree with what has been stated above but it is only restricted to speech and remain in the paper only.In reality nothing will get materialized.I got full respect and reverence to all the doctors and para medical staff of all the hospitals.Really it is a noble profession but nobody would like to compromise when the talk of money comes. These are all limited to rich people only. For the poor people like me it is nightmare to visit any hospital with our ailing patient due to our financial constraints, resulting no proper treatment to them.Even if we visit government hospitals,it is gain a big head ache because of the attitudes of the staff over there. They think that they are the owners of government hospitals.Their approach is very miserable towards poor patients as if they are not the human beings. They are not treated well and given required medicines, asked to get it from outside by paying money even if they got in their stock. The same medicine will be sold to third party or in the market and make money. Those who are having mediclaim, they can get the treatment at least otherwise patients party should die after seeing the exorbitant bill amount before their patient dies.In some of the hospitals it is the practice to keep the dead body in ICU/ventilator for few more days after the death with one or other pretexts in order to make money. This is what is happening in many of the hospitals. Those are all money oriented hospitals and greed for money at the cost of patient.

I wish all the young and future doctor should not indulge in all these filthy money making practices and should give paramount importance in saving the life of patients.Be sincere and honest.Money comes and goes but required to meet our basic needs.Money is not everything.Best of Luck to all the doctors.

Congratulations to all students on their graduation day at AJ Institute. You have gone through one stage in your career and I wish you all the very best. You still have to work very hard to achieve your goal as it maybe easy for some and hard for others depending on the circumstances. Life is tough but it all depends on how you will face it. As mentioned by medical health minister, S R Patil, you students are entering into a noble, hard working career.
