Mangalore, Sep 30: Some self-styled associations have been indulging in spreading baseless falsehood against software companies that would be set up in the district, cautioned Vinay Shetty, president, forum for the welfare of displaced people of Kurnad, Pajir-Balepuni, Kairangala villages, in the press club here on September 29 Saturday.
The forum does not support the setting up of software companies at the cost of welfare of the locals. The forum is determined to oppose the setting up of companies if any some chemical companies would set up their plants, he said in justification of the forum's stand.
The forum is convinced that the advent of the software companies would favour locals towards bettering infrastructure and prioritizing locals at the time of recruitment.
The land earmarked for the companies for acquisition is mostly unsuitable for agriculture-related activities, so there was no harm in acquiring the land, the president declared.
Contesting the versions of the so-called 'associations,' the view that the software companies would fatten themselves on the lives of the locals and neglect their interests when the question of recruitment comes is baseless as the companies have promised the forum that they would fulfil the demands put forth by the forum to protect the interests of locals in every respect, and not just in the case of recruitment.
Denying the allegations made by the 'associations' that it is 'Info-Wipro-sponsored' forum, the president said the forum is working for the good of the locals as it supports what would be a boon to the society in the long run.
So far 30 locals have been recruited, and the company officials have promised the forum that the locals would be recruited in larger numbers in the coming days, the president asserted with relevant statistics.
Pushparaj Shetty, Mohan Alva and Pavan Kumar were present at the press conference.
