Haridwar, Mar 25 : Yoga guru Baba Ramdev who has been accused of splitting the Congress in Uttarakand by encouraging nine party MLAs to revolt against the party and support the BJP, has refuted all the charges.
Uttarakhand Congress president Kishore Upadhyay had earlier alleged that Baba Ramdev, on the advice of BJP party chief Amit Shah, had plotted to topple the Congress government in Uttarakhand.
Refuting the charges, Baba Ramdev told a TV channel, "I have no interest in toppling the Congress government or dividing the unity in the party. Congress by itself has become divided, and there is no need for an outsider to break it. There may be some good people in the Congress, but it's the duty of Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi to take care of party members and elected members. I am now an apolitical person, with no interest in politics. Yes, I was protesting against the previous central (UPA) government because of bad governance. Now I am totally concentrating on yoga, Patanjali and indigenous products. I do not have time for these silly politics."
"If Congress has any proof, let it disclose immediately, why is it wasting time? Why would I want to topple the Uttarakhand government? If at all I want to, I would break the national Congress, not the state congress," he further said.
Earlier, Kishore Upadhyay said on record that Ramdev had worked like "a BJP agent to foment a rebellion against the state government and topple it". Upadhyay claimed that Ramdev was in touch with the nine rebel Congress MLAs before March 18 when the crisis erupted in the state Assembly during a vote on the appropriation bill on the state’s annual budget.
Meantime, Uttarakhand speaker has disqualified the 9 rebel Congress MLAs despite advice from the state governor not to do so. The rebel MLAs have not appealed in the High Court for a stay on their disqualification.
