Mangaluru, Mar 25: In a tragic incident, a man serving in the Indian Air Force (IAF) died after he accidentally fell down the steps of the foot overbridge at Mangaluru Central railway station here on Friday March 25.
The deceased has been identified as K K Manoj Kumar (33), a resident of Anandashrama, Kodathu in Kanhangad.
Manoj had been serving as aircraft technician in the IAF at Nashik.
It is learnt that he was on vacation and had planned to go to his hometown. After reaching Mangaluru, he was supposed to catch a train to Kanhangad.
On Friday morning at around 7.25 am, he bought a ticket to Kanhangad at Central railway station. The train was to leave at 7.50 am from the second platform. When he was crossing the foot overbridge from first platform to the second, he accidentally slipped from the top of the stairs and fell unconsious.
The people at the spot immediately called the ambulance, but by the time it arrived, he was already dead, sources said.
Sources also said that as he was coming home after duty in Nashik, he had a few pieces of luggage with him.
Manoj was the son of Kunhambu and Nalini, residents of Kodathu. He was married to Nalini and the couple has a two-and-a-half-year-old son.
Railway police registered a case and also informed Manoj's family.
