Mysuru, Mar 26: The much-hyped 'Mukhyamantri Santwana Harish Yojane'' scheme launched by the state government with the ambition of helping accident victims immediately after the accident, failed to save two lives once again. This time two people died due to the callousness of people in H D Kote taluk in the district on March 22.
During launch of the scheme
The news came into light with inordinate delay. On Tuesday, a motor bike in which three friends were travelling, was hit by a bus of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC). One among the three died on the spot, while two others, who had suffered serious injuries, were begging for help to get medical attention. But the people did precious little other than providing them drinking water. The passersby whiled away time that was slipping out of the hands of the victims, seeking to know mobile numbers and addresses, rather than rushing them to hospital. As such, an ambulance which arrived at the spot after an hour admitted them into a hospital where both breathed their last.
After Harish from Tumakuru, whose body was torn into two in a similar accident near Begur near Nelamangala in Bengaluru rural district on February 16, no one had listened to his prayers for help. Harish had died on the spot, after which the government had implemented a scheme in his name which is aimed at providing free treatment for 48 hours to accident-injured. But following the announcement of the scheme, Kishore, who was injured in a motor accident near Whitefield Bengaluru did not draw any help.
On March 22, Manju (28), Ramesh Shetty (30), and Mahesh (30) from Boranahalli in Periyapatna taluk in the district were going to the house of a relative in Kolagala in H D Kote taluk when their vehicle was hit by a KSRTC bus. One of them died instantly, and the other two, who were grievously injured, were begging for help. Because of delay in providing assistance, both of them died the same day.
