Mangaluru, Mar 26: An youth lost his life in a suspected accident that occurred at the Netravati old bridge at Ullal here on the intervening night between Friday March 25 and Saturday March 26.
The deceased has been identified as Vinayak K S (21), son of Srinivas Chetty from Kadalur in Hassan district. He was studying BBM in university evening college. He had gone to participate in a function at Mudipu on Friday night where he had left at 12.30 am.
The deceased youth was riding a bike with Sakleshpur registration.
Repair works are going on the old bridge and traffic has been diverted, but there is enough space for a two-wheeler to pass through. It is said that the youth rode his bike through the old bridge, apparently oblivious to the repair works there. It is suspected that his two-wheeler collided with a backhoe in operation at the site, and he lost his life. The body was a few metres away from the bike. There is a possiblilty that after hitting the backhoe, the rider got flung and died of injuries sustained from the fall.
Strangely, no mobile phone, wallet or other possessions were found on him, raising suspicions as to whether it was an accident at all. Moreover, the bike was not badly damaged.
Vinayak was working as an advisor in Reliance Mangaluru branch, and was also pursuing MBA from Mangalore University evening college.
A case relating to the accident was filed in the rural station at Kankanady here. Police have taken up investigation.
