Bantwal, Mar 26: A girl who had planned to enter wedlock on March 31 this year after the completion of her second PU exams is in a quandary now. The government's decision to hold re-examination for chemistry subject for second year pre-university students, after the question paper leaked, has held her in a bind. Now the choices before her are either to get married or appear for her examination.
Razia (name changed to protect privacy), a second PU student of a prestigious college in the taluk, has this riddle before her to crack within a short period. Her marriage had been fixed three months back by her family as well as that of the groom, as they felt that her PU examinations would be over by then. The student, who was enthusiastic about her marriage, also had made good preparation for the examination.
The government's announcement about reexamination in chemistry subject has hit a large number of students like a bolt from the blue. Many have expressed fear about shortage of time for preparations to face this examination again. In the case of Razia, the issue is more complicated as this can have a lasting impact on her future. Initially, the government had announced that reexamination would be held on March 29, just two days before her marriage day. The girl was worried about the prospect of having to appear for the examination just two days before her marriage. On Thursday evening, the government revised the examination schedule and modified the reexamination date as March 31. This news has transformed her into a mental wreck, as she is left undecided whether to get married or face the examination.
A student appearing for the examination has to be inside the centre between 8.50 am and 12.30 pm. All preparations for the marriage have been completed. It would be a daunting task to face the relatives who will be flocking the marriage venue, if the bride herself stays away. Both are important for Razia, and making a final choice has become difficult. Now, it is left for the families to decide whether they could postpone the marriage by a day or two, but with invitations already out, it would take herculean efforts to inform all and sundry.
Negligence on the part of the department of PU education has affected 1.75 lac PU students in the state in various ways like the above. The student in question has no other option open for her but to decide on one of the choices. At present, she is undecided, and time alone will tell what will happen that day.
