Kasargod, Apr 3: Two persons were killed and 12 others including a member of Kasargod town council injured in a head-on collision between a tempo traveller and a mini lorry on the national highway at Poinachi here late night on Saturday April 2.
Ajit and Sharat
The deceased have been identified Ajit (21) of Pilikkod and Sharat (22) from Pallikere, Bekal. While Ajit was in the tempo traveller, Sharat was in the mini lorry.
It is learnt that employees of a showroom in Trikkaripura had gone to Mangaluru in the tempo traveller. On the way back, they were supposed to go to a programme in Bovikkanam. The accident took place when they were on the way to Bovikkanam.
There were 11 people in the tempo traveller and eight in the mini lorry.
The injured, identified as Kasargod municipal ward 22 member Vishwanath (35), a resident of Talangare, Sujit Kumar (26), Sunil Kumar (32), Rafi (23), Shaiju (26), Pramod (21), Ramya (27), Mehboob (24) and others have been admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru.
Satish (22) of Pallikere, Sudhish (19), Akhil (20) of Panattur, Rakesh (22) and Reshma (22) are undergoing treatment in a hospital in Kasargod.
Five of the 12 injured are said to be serious, including TMC member Vishwanath.
Traffic on the highway was affected for sometime following the accident.
Locals and Kasargod fire personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the injured persons and admitted them to hospitals.
