Mangalore, Oct 6: “One should not just get fascinated of salaries that one could earn in the west, instead one should think of the difficulties that are faced in those countries. There are plenty of difficulties besides the fantastic salary in the west”, said Adam Clapham, former BBC producer.
He was addressing the gathering at the valedictory function of Epitome 07, an IT fest held at St Aloysius IT Hall here on Friday October 5.
The western world presented in Hollywood movies is largely different from the reality exists in the west. Poverty and homelessness do exist in the countries like USA. There are people who live below official poverty line in considerable number. The myth has been popularized that violence is only limited to non-western countries, he added.
The people who migrate to the west will face the problems like feeling homesick that would change them to the worst, the former BBC producer expressed his concern.
The moral 'slow and steady wins the race' does not hold good in IT Sector, where quick thinking and actions can take one to greater heights in a short time. A survey conducted recently showed that only few people succeed, because success deserves long term dedication and total confidence, said Fr Swebert D'Silva, principal, St Aloysius College in his presidential address.
While emphasizing the significance of self-confidence in ones life, he added that its sheer guts and courage would find one treading in unknown reality. The self respect and self esteem are essential for one to come up in life.
IT industry is in crisis as the Indian Rupees is emerging stronger against US Dollar, in the international money market.. However, it would not bother much, if an IT professional is ready to display his creativity and commitment. The root cause lies in being diffident. If we are innovative and choose untrodden ways, then the crisis would not become professional jeopardy, Fr Dr Denzil Lobo, director AICS opined.
News letter "Info Talk" was released by the chief guest and prizes were distributed.
Joel Cutinho, president, Exlixir, Santosh Rebello MCA Dean, Mohammed Ansar, student coordinator, were present on the occasion.
