Bengaluru: After PU paper leak, boycott of evaluation by lecturers now

Bengaluru, Apr 6 (PTI): Already under fire over its handling of the Class 12 examination after the Chemistry question paper leaked twice within 10 days, the Karnataka government is now struggling to convince the lecturers who have boycotted the evaluation over pay anomaly issue.

The lecturers are demanding implementation of the G Kumar Naik report that recommends better pay scales for them.

Even as the government, in a attempt to pacify the lecturers, today announced 30 per cent hike in the remuneration and daily allowance to evaluators, Karnataka State PU College Lecturers and Principals' Association have decided to continue the boycott.

They have accused the government of trying to "mislead" students, parents and public in general.

"This remuneration they are announcing now when we are demanding on salary issue is to mislead the people. We stand firm, government has to take decision fast," Lecturers' Union President Timmaiah Purle said.

Srikanthegowda of the Principals' association said "remuneration increase is a routine process and is not a remedy for the pay anomaly, it is an insult to us."

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Kimmane Rathnakar has expressed confidence that the lecturers will end their protest and appear for evaluation keeping the students' interest in mind.

He said if they don't appear for evaluation, alternative arrangements will be made and results announced as per schedule. Meanwhile, Minister Sharanprakash Patil's Officer on Special Duty and two others, who were arrested yesterday by CID in connection with the question paper leak case have been remanded to nine-day police custody from today by a court here.

The examination that first took place on March 21 was cancelled after the question paper was leaked.

Hours before the rescheduled Chemistry exam was to begin on March 31, Department of Pre-University Education (DPUE) was alerted about the question paper leak at two locations in the state. The state government has handed over the probe into the matter to CID.

How the present education system working in our Country….let us review the system process…. First enroll your children under “RTE” order….. No exams till 4th Standard means absolutely no studies & no teaching!!!!! 5th to 9th Standard, pay some nominal fees so that Children can stay away from home mischief….. 10th & 12th Standards, try for question papers in advance through “Paper Leak” mafia!!!!! If everything fails then try for quota or reservation system….. If nothing happens then join any Political Party to become Members of GP, ZP, CC, Assembly or Parishad, etc…. If not succeed then show your capability in party fund collection and become President of any Govt Organization directly appointed by elected Govt!!!!

Dear primary and Secondary Education Minister Kimmane Rathnakar, I don’t know what sort of alternative arrangements you are going to adopt for evaluating the answer sheets. Please don’t hand over the life and future of lahks of students in the hand of unauthorized evaluators. For you it is just one order to issue by whom you are going to evaluate, but parents and students struggle to get good ranks since several years, by going to coaching center as it was the turning point in the 2nd year PU student’s life.
Dear Teachers, lecturers, please don’t only look at money keep up the moral value and professional ethics. You people are respected in the society, don’t lose your respect. Think of student’s mental conditions. They have to appear several entrance exams. Don’t spoil student’s future.

The lecturers genuine needs should be addressed by the government of the day. Those working in private colleges which are self financed are paid a pittance even though the fees collected is over 500 fold compared to government stipulation. Basic facilities needs to be given to them. It is better the state government appoints an ombudsman for educational institutions like the Lok Ayukta who will receive petitions and redress their grievance.
