Bangalore, Oct 11: A legislator of JD(S) on Thursday resigned from primary membership of the party protesting the party's failure to honour its promise of transferring power to BJP.
Mahima Patel, son of former Chief Minister late J H Patel, on Thursday sent in his resignation letter to JD(S) chief H D Deve Gowda.
"I decided to quit the party as it could not keep its promise. The situation is not conducive to my continuance in such a party. I will float my own outfit," Mahima told here.
Mahima resigned his Parliamentary Secretary post on October 7 to protest the party's decision reneging on its power transfer promise to BJP and had threatened to quit the party.
He is the first MLA to resign from JD(S) and second leader after Vijaya Sankeshwar, a member of the national executive.
Mahima said there are several legislators in JD(S) who oppose Deve Gowda's stand.
Several JD(S) leaders, who are unhappy over the party's refusal to transfer power to BJP, have been holding group meetings among themselves to discuss their political future following the BJP unleashing a campaign against JD(S).
It is learnt that these disgruntled legislators were in touch with some Congress leaders in the wake of President's rule in the state following the collapse of JD(S)-BJP government and the state assembly being kept under suspended animation.
