Mangalore, Oct 12: Every one should cultivate healthy reading habit. Reading should not be limited to academics or the activities related to academics, instead learning should help one to develop personality, suggested Harikrishna Punarooru, former president, Kannada Sahitya Parishath at the valedictory function of First Kalavikasa Literary Convention held at government PU College for girls, Car-Street here on Thursday October 11. 

Appreciating the convention, he said that conventions like this not only expose the growing minds to tradition and culture but also provide opportunity where they could develop their personality. 

Addressing the gathering, Gururaj Marpally said that syllabus prescribed in dramas academically is more or less a replication of the west. Persons involved in the activities related to plays do not take lead to adopt Natya Shastra by Baratha, who explains the stage techniques and movements in detail.

Education is not being implemented in its broader sense, and it is being seen as a rank war. Conventions are not decoration any longer but they are need of the hour, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, opinioned.

H Shreedar Hande, retired teacher, MS Ibrahim, Chandra Shekar Damle, Nayan Gowry Seraje, a budding artist, Pattabi Ram Sulia, mimicry artist, Gururaj Marpally, artist and PP Joseph, principal were felicitated on the occasion. 

Kumble Sunder Rao, former MLA and veteran yakshagana artist was present on the occasion.

Devananda Pai, treasurer welcomed the gathering.
