Man plucking coconuts falls into well, dies - three rescuers sick

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Apr 16: In an incident which occurred on Friday April 15 at Kemral Kapikad Attur within Mulky police station limits, a person who had climbed a coconut tree for plucking coconuts, died after slipping and falling into a well. Three persons who went into the well in an effort to rescue him fell sick.

Poovappa, a resident of Kapikad Attur, died in the incident. Locals, Muhammed Kunhi, and his sons, Muneer and Abdul Nazeer, fell ill when trying to help the victim.

Poovappa was plucking coconuts from a tree in the house of a local, Muhammed Kunhi, when he suddenly fell down into a 50 feet deep well. Muhammed Kunhi, who went into the well to rescue him, suffered from breathing difficulties because of shortage of oxygen inside. His sons, Muneer and Abdul Nazeer, went down the well to help their father and the victim, but they too suffered from shortage of oxygen. In the meanwhile, Poovappa, who had fallen into the water, died out of breathing problems because of paucity of oxygen there, it is gathered.

The locals called the fire brigade, and continued their efforts to rescue those who were trapped in the well, with the help of police. But their efforts went in vain. Later, in an operation launched by fire brigade personnel with the help of locals and Mulky police, all the four could be brought out. But Poovappa had died before he could be helped, it is learnt.

Muneer, Abdul Nazeer, and Muhammed, who had turned sick, were provided treatment at the hospital. A case about the incident was registered in Mulky police station.

looking at all silly comments and arguments for this article one will wonder what is happening in our society. why such arguments on small matters. we should be appreciating the owners who risked their own life to save a person and mourn for soul departed. instead of that we are arguing with silly points and bringing in other countries and animals

    Unfortunate incident. RIP

There is one climbing gear available in Japan and video in youtube. I think it is the most appropriate for coconut trees. Someone please bring it from Japan or make in India.
Probably anybody can climb very easily.

@Dev kumar Mangalore,it is true what Jossey said.whether he told as a joke or not,but in Indonesia they Train monkeys and they do pluck coconuts. They have monkeys at home bind, just like our Dogs, train them. They do pluck coconuts only dry ones.as a gift they get bananas,or a green coconut .with this trick we do can try to avoid the risk and Manpower .Nowadays we hardly get anybody to pluck coconuts in Mangalore and surroundings. The Person has the chain bound to monkeys in his Hand so that they cant runaway.sad the man lost his life.Thats the risk in this Job.May his Soul rest in peace.

Now why this talk? Tree was not planted by Poovappa? Also, it may not be first time poovappa climbing the coconut tree. If he knew he would fall and die due to shortage of oxygen, he would not have climbed. It looks after going to Surat, you forgot mangalore landscape... You too are in Surat for the same purpose what Poovappa was... daily bread & support family.

Why you forget good / skilled swimmers also drown and dead excellent drivers met with accident and lost their life...

The article states he died of paucity of oxygen, not shortage of oxygen like you are commenting. Because of the paucity problem, the tree should not be planted next to well.
