History

Bombay Bunts Association, around 25 years old, well respected community organization in Mumbai started by “Bunts” from Mangalore, way back in 1982. The association has done commendable services to the community during the last 25 years. The association has now built a magnificent Bunts Centre Complex at Sanpada, near Juhi Nagar Railway station at Navi Mumbai on a 2000 sq metre plot with total cost of approximately Rs 7 Crore.   This year being the Silver Jubilee year of the organization, the association will be dedicating Bunts Centre Complex for socio-cultural activities of the community in particular and general public of Mumbai at large.

The complex will have ultra modern air-conditioned theatre with a seating capacity of 750 approximately. Additionally, there will be an open auditorium on the ground floor with facility for catering for more than 1000 people. There is one hall on the front 2nd floor with sitting capacity of 300-400 people and two conference rooms with sitting capacity of 100-150 people each. The complex will also have additional facilities such as an Ultra Modern Gym, Library, Diagnostic Center along with Administrative Office, Board Room, President Chamber, Manager’s Room, 6-8 Guest Rooms’ etc.

Bunts community, originally hail from one district of Karnataka, namely South Kanara. South Kanara is now divided into 2 districts, namely, Mangalore and Udupi District. Bunts are a closely-knit farming community and they owned most of the farming land in Mangalore and Udipi. As per some records, the migration, the migration of Bunts to Mumbai started in 1920. They are industrious, peace loving and hard working people with leadership ability. They immediately mixed with the locals in Mumbai and established a name for themselves. In Kannada, the meaning of bunts is a “Warrior”.

When these Bunts lost their farming land in Mangalore and Udupi due to The Land Reform Act, they immediately switched to other avenues of livelihood. They tried to establish in various other fields. They migrated to other cities including Mumbai. Today they can proudly say that with their hard work, leadership ability, innovative skills, they are controlling 90% of Mumbai’s restaurant and hospitality business. Initially, even though, they started Udupi hotel business, today they control all types of restaurants, bars and pubs.

Over the years, they have established their name in other professional fields also. Today one can find a large number of bunts as Doctors, Engineers, Businessmen, Chartered Accountants, in the Legal Profession, in Theatres as well as in the Film Industry.

Bunts are basically peace loving, cooperative, industrious and socially matured people. They always create their own community center, wherever they are. They care for the economical backward section of the community.

Bombay Bunts Association has crossed a new milestone by dedicating the magnanimous Bunts Center Complex during their Silver Jubilee year to their Karmabhoomi which is Mumbai.

S M Krishna, governer, will inaugurate this complex on Sunday, October 14, in the presence of other dignitaries, founders and elders from the community.

    REALLY A GREAT MILESTONE TO ALL OF US .BUT ONLY IF THE BUNTS PEOPLE STOP TAKING AND GIVING DOWRIES IT WILL BE GREATER MILESTONE FOR HUMAN BEINGS.
