Bengaluru, Apr 19: The state criminal investigation department (CID), which has been investigating the scandal relating to leakage of chemistry question paper pertaining to second PU final examination has taken into custody two PhD students for their connection with the above racket.

The names of the arrested persons have been given as K Nagendra from Kuvempunagara Mysuru, and Timme Gowda from Sharadanagara. Both of them were close associates of Shivakumaraswamy, who is said to be the kingpin of question paper leakage racket. It is said that both of them joined hands with Shivakumaraswamy in question paper leakage scandal for monetary gain. CID officials came to know about the involvement of the accused when verifying cell phone calls of Shivakumaraswamy.

It is gathered that Nagendra is a research scholar in biochemistry department of Bangalore University, Timmegowda is a research scholar of Karnataka State Open University (KSOU). Both were friends since the last nearly a decade. In spite of that Timme Gowda had registered himself for research at Mysuru, he was found to be active in the city, and he stayed in the university hostel without valid permission, officials have revealed.

Timme Gowda had sought to conduct research in KSOU after securing masters degree in economics from Bangalore University. He is well-versed with the environment in the university campus, and the fact a friend of Timme Gowda happens to be a PhD student here helped him to stay in his hostel room for several days, it is said.
