Mangaluru, Apr 19:"We will not go for new projects but complete the pending works of underground drainage (UGD) and water pipeline works in the II phase of ADB scheme," said Ponnuraj, managing director of Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation Ltd.
Ponnuraj was addressing the corporators after hearing the suggestions on effective implementation of ADB (Asian Development Bank) scheme in the city, here on Tuesday April 19.
He also said “For the effective implementation of the project corporators also should completely involve themselves and participate spontaneously. Detailed project report (DPR) has not been finalized for the second phase ADB. Once the council approves the preliminary detailed report the detailed project report will be finalized"
Corporators should give suggestions and there is need to form institutional mechanism for the effectively implementation of the project, Ponnuraj opined.
“The project should be finalized from the ward level. Officers will collect the data about the water pipeline and UGD from the ward level and correction should be made from that level only. Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation Ltd will provide the information about the works carried out in first phase of ADB,” Ponnuraj said.
“Before preparing the DPR, the officers from the department will go for the ground level visit and it may take 1.5 months for the survey. The officers of health department, junior engineer (JE), consultant and KUIDFC will take part in the asset mapping. And they will understand the ground level difficulties and do the mapping. This copy will also go to the contractors. The project should be updated through the geographical institute system,” he briefed.
He also suggested to the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) to setup the standing committee which would finalize and present the proposal in the MCC council meeting.
“This committee should hold the project review meetings till the project gets over. Bill sanctioning for the work should be done after securing joint signatures.” Ponnuraj said.
Many corporators also complained about the incomplete work of UGD and water pipeline. They said there are no proper UGD in the various parts of the city and improper drainage, substandard work, leakage and over flowing drains are found in many places.
MLA JR Lobo, mayor Harinath, deputy mayor Sumithra Kariya, Commissioner HN Gopalakrishna and other were present in the meeting.
