Kundapur, Apr 25: A criminal wanted in many theft cases escaped from Kerala police clutches while he was being taken to Kerala from Mumbai. The incident took place at Saligrama near here on Sunday, April 24.
Mohammed Afzal is the person escaped from the police.
Mohammed Afzal was wanted in many theft cases he committed in Kerala. The Kerala police came to know that he had reached Mumbai. A team of 4 police personnel went to Mumbai and arrested him. While the police were bringing Mohammed Afzal to Kerala, they stopped at Saligrama for food. The police decided to loosen the handcuffs and chains for sometime on humanitarian grounds. Mohammed Afzal utilised this opportunity and ran away from police.
Kerala police immediately informed the local Kota police. Kerala police and the Kota police took this as a challenge. They started searching for the thief in the nearby areas.
During late evening of Sunday, when an unknown person was spotted, people chased him. He knocked on a door and then disappeared in the dark. After knowing that this man wore rose T shirt and Bermuda shorts, police established that it was Mohammed Afzal.
Police personnel from both states as well as a team of around 40 enthusiastic youngsters have been searching for Mohammed Afzal till now but he is still at large.
