Koppal: 11 killed in road accident, accused on the run

Koppal, Apr 26 (PTI): Eleven persons, including nine women, were killed and five others injured when a "tum tum" (large autorikshaw) carrying them collided head-on with a lorry near here today.

All the eleven, occupants of the autorickshaw, died on the spot in the collision at Halgeri village, 12 km from here, Koppal Superintendent of Police Thyagrajan told PTI.

Five injured persons, including the cleaner of the lorry, had been admitted to the government hospital here and the condition of a 35-year old woman was stated to be serious, he said.

The victims were travelling in the autorikshaw, plying from Koppal to Kuknoor, and the lorry was heading here from Hubballi when the mishap occurred around 6.45 pm.

The lorry driver was absconding, the SP said.

RIP all 11…. But it’s the fault from the autorikshaw driver also. As mentioned here if it is large autorikshaw how it is possible to accommodate 11 persons. With 11 already killed if truck driver had absconded, then it would be 12 killed… Anyways driver should surrender to police…
