Mangalore, Oct 19: Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) will invite private contractors to run paid parking system that aims at streamlining the vehicle parking, thereby reducing congestion on roads, especially in central business areas of the city, said M Maheshwara Rao, deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, on Thursday, October 18 here.
The corporation authorities will soon identify roads for the purpose and some of them might be M G Road, Central Market Area, B R Ambedkar (Jyoti) Circle) to Hampanakatta, Ambedkar Circle to Balmatta and Lalbagh to KSRTC bus stand. The system would be introduced as the roads are being widened, he added.
Addressing mediapersons, he informed that the prescribed fees would not be a burden either to vehicle-users or to private contractors. The corporation will see that the roads on which religious processions will be taken out would be free from potholes and the process of filling up potholes will be taken up, besides maintenance of arterial roads of the city within about thirty days. Krishnappa Poojary, corporation commissioner, MCC has been directed in this regard.
Box cutting techniques would be used to fill up potholes where in potholes would be cut into square or rectangular shapes and filled up with asphalt-gravel mix and subsequently asphalted, he detailed.
