Mangaluru, May 8: On account of manyfold increase in the economic activity in the city, the city is growing fast. With increase in number of vehicles, population, and business establishments, pollution level is rising. Particularly because of poisonous smoke emitted by vehicles and dust, health of people, particularly traffic policemen who are always on duty on roads, is getting adversely affected, as per a study report conducted by Anti Pollution Drive (APD), a city-based organization.

Vehicular pollution happens to be a major contributor to environment pollution in cities. Traffic policemen and other staff, and children attending schools and colleges are affected more by the rising pollution. There has been an alarming increase in the number of children attending schools and colleges getting afflicted by asthma, the study claims.

Many traffic division staff including policemen suffer from ailments related to lungs. 22.3 percent of policemen in traffic department with less thatn five years in traffic segment are suffering from health complications connected with lungs.

APD undertook this study in association with the department or respiratory medicines, Yenepoya Medical College here. Assistant police commissioner of the city police, Uday Nayak, actively took part in the health check up drives. A number of officers and staff got involved with this study and thereby extended support for the study, it is gathered.

I am appalled to see that there is no mention of dust pollution in Mangalore in this report.

Is it not possible that the excess dust can hold these noxious gases for a longer time in the breathing air to increase the distress to our lungs? We think of smart city. How smart are the scenes where road side piling up of bricks, sands and dug up earth? Is this not violation ( if it is not then change the rules)? Dust on road side surely is spread by moving vehicles and trigger itchy nose, eyes, throat and then cough?

Vehicular pollution is there but I feel that is a lesser evil , first we need to tackle the roads , dust and ban lighting fire to fallen leaves within the MCC limits.

Aging does not strictly follow the years. The biological aging can be increased several folds by breathing dusty air, eating junk food( red meat non veg on a daily basis, deep fried from restaurants), alcohol and lack of physical activity.

One gets the impression that we Indians in general like dust. Surely we can at least demand cleaner roads( regular cleaning off the dust collected on the roads) from our smart MCC.

My dear fellow citizens. City isn't developing. It's getting worst. I feel even Bangladesh is more committed to its country's betterment. Here, it's all about politics and money and yeah cry in the name of religion. Long way to be matured.
I'm sure few peep who will not be able to understand my point will comment some non sense.
Writing our opinion here, I don't know if it's worth or no. There's nothing left to say.

We encourage pollutions, discourage solutions and hence suffer to breathe.

Following fashion is our priority and hence we hate to change our mindset.

We carry and move the heavy burden with pride and arrogance, but reluctant to consider it as a blessed boon.

If think different and implement change, we can enjoy incredible solutions and amazing benefits.

If the authorities do not support, there is no way to have change, instead it makes us to face the worse situation.
