Bengaluru: KSRTC holds funeral of burnt buses to educate mobs

Daijiworld Media Network-Bengaluru (RJP)

Bengaluru, May 11: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) on Tuesday May 10 held a mock funeral of its buses that were burnt during the massive garment workers’ protest last month.

This rare and unusual 'funeral' is part of the KSRTC’s two-day campaign ‘It’s My Bus’. The campaign intends to create awareness among people not to damage public property during the protests, especially state owned buses which are always first targets.

The burnt buses were displayed at Majestic bus station and also at other major bus stations in city.

Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy who inaugurated the campaign at the Majestic bus station, said that the KSRTC buses have become easy targets for the angry mobs in many protests. "Public should choose non-violent methods. Destroying public property is not the solution to the problems." he said.

KSRTC managing director Rajender Kumar Kataria said that routine acts of damaging the government buses should stop. "These buses were purchased from taxpayers’ money. We lost Rs 10-15 crore due to damage to the buses. When I visited the Peenya depot soon after the protest, I decided to do something to prevent such damages in the future.” he added.

Kataria said he hoped the initiative will help to prevent future damages to public property.

Artist Badal Nanjundaswamy had painted an undamaged bus as part of the campaign.

Novel way to educate people though. How will this ever work when our entire schooling system has failed to prevent such uncivilized behavior from even so called educated people. In 1993, during the MRPL protests, our house was severely damaged by protestors just because it was on the roadside and no other apparent reason. My father rejected government compensation purely on his principles. I don't even know what ever happened to those police cases. People don't realize that even the compensation comes from tax payers money and not from perpetrators.

Dear people of bengaluru who burnt buses please learn from people of dk & Udupi District. Here we have immense respect for buses, in our districts even if a bus driver kills 10 people due rash driving, we & administration will help these buses at the earliest. The police will quickly CO operate to release the buses. The brake inspector will sign the inspection report from the office and within few hours the bus will be back plying even before the dead are cremated. Please learn from us.

Kannadigas never do it. Such violent scenarios are common in Northern parts of India. Govt should control these people flooding here. Otherwise Karnataka will soon become one more Bihar.

These bus funerals will not be a lesson to the culprits.Make a unique law for such incidents and recover the loss from the parties and political party involved in the incident. This is our money and no body has the right to poll this way.

Moral values should be taught in schools. Teachers and parents should teach their students and children through stories and examples about right and wrong and also why we should follow proper moral values.

I just feel like doing a survey in schools How many teachers teach moral science during moral science period. Teachers take up maths or leave them free.

Shoot the people who destroy public property specially buses being easy target. Then only we can stop all these crazy mob instigated by Politicians destroying the public property.
Having said that if police shoot such people in riots who burn the buses, media will make a story that Police have killed a farmer brutally. During such events, Police should have chest cameras to verify the wrong doings of crazy mob.

Unique and strange but literally we need this kind of phenomenon to educate the people!!!! Don’t destroy the public property else we will end up paying more somewhere else to compensate the loss!!!! If you want to protest for genuine cases, then go and destroy the private properties of our Law Makers.

First part is Ok, but later part not so ok....Look at Hardik patel,of Gujarat, facing sedition charges and is jailed...His only blunder was, he gave a call to attack police..... So advising to attack the Personal properties of law makers is not a good suggestion....Take care..But they should be given a good lesson in the elections..
