Mangaluru, May 15: Moderate rains were reported in almost all places of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasargod districts from Saturday evening to Sunday evening.

Brahmavar and Manipal were hit by heavy rains and lightening. A tree got uprooted and fell on the rooftops damaging houses. However, there were no injuries.
The house belonging to Godhu Poojarthi, at Karthibailu in Havanje village was completely damaged after an uprooted tree fell on the rooftop due to heavy rains causing a loss of nearly two lacs.
Udupi Tahshildar Guruprasad and MLA Pramod Madwaraj who examined the damages, ordered Rs 1 lac from the CM's compensation fund. In Manipal, a house belonging to Koraga Naika, in Vijayanagara Colony, Kodi was damaged after a coconut tree got uprooted and fell on the roof. A five-year-old child suffered minor injuries in the incident. A loss of nearly Rs one lac has been reported.
Heavy rainfall in Kasargod and nearby places
Heavy rainfall and hailstorm on last night, May 14 uprooted many trees and street light poles, causing power cuts.
Heavy loss was incurred in the village panchayath limits of Kasargod City, Chengala, Madhuru and Mogral Puttur. More than 100 electric poles fell down due to the rain. 78 electric poles fell down in the limits of Kasargod town muncipal council. Several houses were affected.
The house belonging to Shivappa in Badiyadka got damaged. The house belonging to Moidhu in Meepuguri was damaged after a coconut tree fell on the roof. Several advertisement boards fell down due to heavy rain. A tree fell on a car parked near Mallikarjuna temple. Another tree fell on a railway track near Kasargod Pallam. Fire brigade and police rushed to the spot to clear the track.
Officers of the electricity department stated that they need at least 2 days to set right electric cables. Work is in progress.
