Mangaluru, May 18: A team of cardiologists led by Dr Yusuf Kumble, managing director of Indiana Hospital became role model by sponsoring Rs 5 lac worth free AICD to save 70 year old Jailani's life at Indiana Hospital and Heart Institute in city.
Addressing media persons, Dr Yusuf Kumble said that Jailani Kharuri, a resident of Bhatkal was admitted in his supervision for complaints with regard to repeated episodes of loss of consciousness.
The critically ill patient Jailani Kharuri was admitted at Indiana Hospital and Heart Institute for treatment under the care of Dr Yusuf Kumble, chief interventional cardiologist. Dr Yusuf Kurnble and his team conducted various tests namely ECHO, EP study which determined LV dysfunction (EF-30%) and a life threatening ventricular tachycardia arrhythmia, which can cause sudden cardiac death. The only life saving treatment available was the implant of an ICD, a life saving device.
The device and hospitalization cost was more than Rs 5 lac. Jailani Kharuri and his family are not financially strong and were unable to raise the required amount for his treatment. Because of this reason, he was discharged from the hospital last month without completing the treatment.
Doctors and staff at Indiana Hospital helped him by appealing to public for financial help through media. Arshad Motisham and Isbul Battul came forward to help Jailani. However Jailani suffered a sudden heart failure and was admitted to hospital last week.
Since this was an emergency, doctors did not waste time in getting financial help. Dr Yusuf Kumble decided to install the ICD devise to save his life. He and his colleagues Dr Abdul Mansoor, Dr Shivashankar and the management took up the responsibility and sponsored the implant.
This was a wonderful gesture by the doctors to save the life of the patient. This kind gesture will certainly increase the trust between doctors and patients. Jailani and his family were very grateful to Dr Yusuf Kumble and his team for their dedication towards saving the patient's life and providing the best care, thereby giving him a new lease of life.
