Mangaluru, May 22: State health minister U T Khader refuted charges levelled against him in drug scam by former BBMP corporator N R Ramesh and said he is ready to face any probe and even ready to take political retirement if proven guilty.
Khader was speaking in a press meet at circuit house here on Sunday, May 22.
Drug scam
“The allegations made against me are vague and baseless. I refute all of them. I have not done anything wrong. This is a conspiracy to tarnish my image and that of health ministry. I have called this press meet to tell the people of the state as well as the district that do not believe in lies and confusion," Khader said.
“BBMP is an autonomous body. The papers N R Ramesh claims to have do not have any relationship with the health ministry as they belong to the BBMP. I have asked the mayor of Bengaluru to look into this issue. Ramesh says that 15 companies out of the 81 are fake and fictitious. Why cannot he name them? Which are they? Drug controller says that all companies are genuine," Khader added.
"Ramesh says sub-standard drugs are supplied. Why cannot he show some proof? He does not have any certificate to show that drugs were tested by him and that they are of poor quality. We presently follow all the guidelines in force from the state as well as union government including NRHM rules. In future, we are going to introduce quality guarantee system where anybody can complain about quality of drugs by phoning 104 toll free. I am ready to face any probe in this matter. I am ready to take political retirement if I am wrong in any way, ” Khader continued.
Janardhan Poojary’s statement
Reacting on the statement of senior leader B Janardhana Poojary who had criticised Khader on May 21, Khader said “I respect him. He has been with us for very long. He is an experienced leader. He knew my father and mother very well. I know him from childhood. I will listen to him.”
Yettinahole project
When asked about his pro –Yettinahole stance, he said “I am very sure that Yettinahole project will go on. Nobody can stop it. It was approved during BJP time and we are implementing it. We should more think about Paschima Vahini now than Yettinahole. If Poojary was the Member of Parliament, he could have stopped the Yettinahole project by influencing at the environment department at the central level. But now it is not possible at all.”
