Mangaluru, May 23: Railway protection force (RPF) staffs have arrested three suspects for buying tatkal tickets and later selling them at higher prices. RPF have recovered tickets worth Rs 20,935 from them.
The arrested are Mangaluru Chilimbi resident Kiran J Bhat(35), Valencia resident Umesh (41) and Kenjaru Gundottu house resident Rajendra Shetty(30). The suspects are presently in judicial custody.
The three had stood in queue for tatkal tickets along with others on Saturday, May 21. Constables V V Sanjay Kumar and P Vasanth in the leadership of RPF SI Bharath Raj CM on suspicion also stood in the line wearing plain clothes. After verification, the suspects were caught.
Rs 8,655 from Kiran, Rs 4,960 from Umesh and Rs 73,200 from Rajendra Shetty have been recovered. AC reserved Tatkal tickets and blank reservation forms were also seized from them.
The trio was buying tickets for the needy considering the holiday season. As AC coach online tatkal tickets are sold from 10 am and Sleeper coach tatkal tickets are sold at 11 am only for two to three minutes, they were on the line. They were later selling the tickets by keeping a profit between Rs 200 to Rs 400. As they used to stand in the line every day, the passengers were facing hardship.
Such incidents have occurred in the past. The illegal business is going on at some places, said the police.
