Bengaluru, May 23: “Dr U R Anantamurthy had received Jnyanapeeta award with the help of political leaders. He should have been shot dead for saying that he would urinate on the idols of deities”, said Shanthaveera Swamiji of Kolada Math.
Speaking in award ceremony held by Raj Media cultural academy at NGO auditorium on Sunday, May 23, the Swamiji said that Anantamurthy was a double standard person who stated how his dead body should be buried against religious customs and traditions.
“To his statement that he will urinate on the idols of deities, I had challenged him to urinate on the picture of his parents. He had not reacted to it”, said the Swamiji.
“The tradition of respecting parents is vanishing these days. All are following western cultures. The culture of our country is getting destroyed. Religious places and elected representatives are getting converted as the centres of making money”, he lamented.
Former union minister Dr M V Rajashekaran speaking on the occasion, said that the political situation in the country has turned worse. “The country will not survive if the political system does not change. Nearly half of the country’s population is youth. They should come forward to unite the country. They should be made to realize principles, human values and family virtues. If not, the youth will lose their way. Family values take a decisive role in our system. The world is supported on such a system. However, western system is being followed these days. We should remain away from it,” he said.
