Bhatkal, May 25: Bhatkal-Honnavar constituency MLA Mankal Vaidya said on Monday, May 23 that there are no terrorists in Bhatkal, but only its name is dragged to controversy.
Mankal was speaking in a meeting of the representatives of Bhatkal and Honnavar taluk Muslim Jamaath held under the aegis of Majlis Islam Thanjim on Monday, May 24.
“My service is not restricted to any religion or caste. I am the MLA of all groups of people. I have worked enough for the people in the MLA term of last three years. It is necessary to find a lasting solution for drinking water, disposal of waste and illegal land acquisition. Those who lost land due to the widening of national highways need a solution. Attempts are made to solve the scarcity of teachers and ration cards. I am not doing this because I am elected but realizing that it is my responsibility,” he said.
“Several crores are spent for developments in Bhatkal Honnavar. There is a long list of works including roads and bridges. Minister Deshpande’s cooperation was instrumental in those works. We do not publicise our works like in BJP. It is our drawback. This meeting is an excellent platform to know the problems of the people in the constituency.” he added.
“I am repeating that there are no terrorists in Bhatkal. Should the entire Bhatkal bear the bad name if a person somewhere conducts untoward incident”, he asked.
Expressing his anguish against BJP he said "If a person commits a crime, legal action can be taken against him. The union government is BJP. They have all the investigating agencies under them. Let them investigate and punish if there are terrorists in Bhatkal. It is not fair to repeatedly drag the name of Tanjim instead. Many people have lost their houses due to widening of national highways. When Oscar Fernandes was the union minister, on request by minister Deshpande, the width of the road was restricted to 45 meters. But the BJP government at the center changed it and made 60 meters. We have no choice other than protesting against it”, he said.
