Udupi, May 26: Udupi District Consumers Grievances Redressal Forum has ordered Mumbai-based Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) which runs an outlet at Manipal near here to pay penalty as well as relief to an aggrieved customer who had alleged having been supplied with stale food by this chain, which he said had given rise to health complications.
Kishen Hegde Kolkebail had bought certain food items made of chicken from the Manipal outlet of the chain on December 23, 2014. He had later alleged that he had suffered from health complications after consuming this stale food. He had filed complaint against KFC for providing him with stale food and causing him problems.
The consumers court, which held hearings in the case, came to the conclusion after examining evidences produced, that KFC was guilty of deficient customer service by way of supplying stale food to the customer. Therefore, it imposed Rs 4,000 by way of court expenses and Rs 10,000 by way of compensation on KFC. In addition, KFC was also asked to reimburse medical expenses incurred by the complainant.
