Bangalore, Nov 2 (MB): Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur on Friday had a moment of surprise when a visitor called on him at his "Janata Darshan' and submitted a petition, demanding that he be appointed as Governor.

Thakur, who holds the Janata Darshan thrice a week to hear grievances from the public, was amused and even baffled for a few seconds on hearing a demand by a 72-year-old retired teacher Rangaiah Shetty, who petitioned him stating that he wanted to be appointed as Governor.

A stunned Governor assured the gubernatorial post aspirant that he would look into the request, at which many others who had gathered for the Janata Darshan raised their eyebrows.

Shetty told Thakur that under the Constitution, any literate who has attained the age of 55 years is eligible to be appointed as Governor. He also reminded the Governor that he is 72.

Shetty, a resident of this city, was heard remarking that he wanted only the Governor's post and nothing else.

Thakur, who has been holding Janata Darshans after the state came under President's rule since October 9, had visitors seeking financial assistance and employment, among others.
