Mangaluru, Jun 14: Members of certain Hindu organizations, after getting information that a couple made up of persons belonging to different religions had hired a room in a lodge, had made preparations to raid the said lodge on Monday June 13.
Police personnel belonging to Konaje station, who were alerted about this incident, acted swiftly and made inquiries. They found out that the two were students and closely related to each other. As such, the situation eased and an incident of immoral rowdyism narrowly missed from taking place. The incident occurred at Deralakatte within the limits of Konaje police station.
The lady in question had completed MBA course from here. Her relative is from Kerala. As she had completed her course, the student had to vacate her hostel room at Konaje. She had taken part in an interview for job held at Manipal on Monday and was bound for her village near Puttur. On the way, she stayed with her close relative in a lodge. Activists of some Hindu organizations were tipped by someone that the two look like belonging to different religions. A number of activists came together in front of Mehraj Lodge at Deralakatte thereafter.
Konaje police rushed there immediately after getting information. When they questioned the duo, they came to know that both the students were relatives, and their families were aware that they were staying together. The police then sent them away safely. During this period, one of the youngsters who had assembled there behaved rudely and asked Konaje police sub-inspector, Sudhakar, to produce the couple in front of them. Sudhakar took him to task, and wanted to know whether he would have behaved the same way had they been his brother and sister.
No case was registered about this incident with the police.
