Mangaluru, Jun 15: As the district health department marked the celebrations of 'world blood donors’ day' on Tuesday June 14, various blood banks in the city saw a rush of blood donors as part of the 'donate blood, save life' cause.

As per data from eight blood banks in the city, they received 269 units of blood. While few of the blood banks celebrated blood donors day on June 14, a few days later others will celebrate blood donors’ week from June 14.

For a 21 year old donor under anonymity it was his first blood donation and this act filled him with thrill.

All the supervisors of all the blood banks agreed that there was an increase in the number of blood donors as more and more people are made aware of the benefits of blood donation.

'Thank you for saving my life' is the slogan printed with the photograph of a baby found on entering the blood bank. Some say it is the best way to save a life. Some say it generates enthusiasm in a person within 24 hours of donation. Nevertheless, it has benefited many as one unit of blood can save three lives.

To add to this about five frequent blood donors were felicitated on June 14 at the RAPCC auditorium of Wenlock Hospital.

One of the felicitated, Rohan John D'Silva from Kulshekar had donated blood 36 times by the age of 32. Speaking to Daijiworld, he explained how this habit came about. "I have been donating blood since the age of 18. I began donating through a blood donation camp. Initially I had seen blood being purchased for an emergency and then decided to donate blood and so began the process. Later through an organization named Chaithanya at Siddakatte, we began organizing blood donation camps. It is better to donate blood once in six months. But if one is healthy, it can be donated once in three months. Now we organize blood donation camps at Kulshekar under the banner Dubois Kulshekar. It gives the satisfaction of saving lives." Rohan said.

"There are many people who help the needy in an emergency by donating blood. Along with encouraging them, we must also come forward to donate blood at least once in six months as many people in the country lose their lives due to shortage of blood." he added.

One of the esteemed readers here has commented that we should appreciate and congratulate Bajrang Dal workers for donating blood. I really do not know the need to bring this Dal into all this. I would have appreciated if he had mentioned that all INDIANS should be congratulated for donating blood. Please remember, my dear friend, that we are all humans first and caste, creed, politics etc. should be kept out of all this. Whoever donates blood does a noble act whether he is from any Dal or Sangha or any other organization. I congratulate you on your noble act of donating blood twice. Keep it up.

Dal never been more than 0.008% of 80%. Do not give wrong data. Majority are just not in agreement with Dal culture.
