Mangaluru, Jun 16: ‘World Blood Donors Day’ was observed in Father Muller Medical College at Hospital Conference Hall here on Thursday, June 16.
Dr K V Nagaraj, deputy drugs controller in-charge, Mangaluru circle inaugurated the occasion and said, “Donating one unit of blood is equal to saving three lives. Donating blood is also serving the mankind. Dakshina Kannada district has 14 blood banks and stands second in entire state. Father Muller hospital is doing well in this regard and catering to the needs of needy patients.”
He also requested the hospital authority and blood bank to educate people to come forward and donate blood. He assured his support in this noble deed.
Vijay D'Souza who donated the blood 30 times in FMMC was felicitated on the occasion.
After receiving the felicitation, Vijay D'Souza said, “I have donated blood thirty times in Father Muller Hospital. It began on the day when a poor family came to me and requested for blood. Then I came to know that one unit of blood can save three lives. FMMC has good equipments and good staff that motivated me to come and donate blood.”
Speaking on the occasion, Fr Richard Coelho administrator of FMMC said, “Blood connects us all. Science and technology which connect one another in various ways remains only in intellectual level. Blood gives life. God has given us life and we need to preserve it and help the needy by donating blood. Let us encourage one another and educate younger generation on blood donation.”
Dr Jayaprakash Alva, honoured Vinayaka Rao Kanyadi of Sevabharathi, Vijeeth and Lokesh, Vivian Shirian, A J Anand, Sandeep Wilson, Hrithik Raj and many others for the regularly organizing blood donation camps.
