Officials who came for stone crusher survey sent back for third time

Udupi, Jun 17: Naveen Adyanthaya and partners had submitted a request for permission to district administration to start a stone crusher unit in Kalathur despite opposition from local people.
The local people on Friday June 17, stood waylaying the officials who had come for survey. They shouted slogans and expressed their anguish. The people said that they have received no notice and hence will not allow them survey.
There were discussions between officials and crusher owners for nearly thirty minutes.
Meanwhile partner of the stone crusher unit Rocky Shetty asked the Tahasildar to start lathi charging the people gathered. This angered the protesters. They went forward to assault Rocky Shetty and chase him from the place. The police who were present at the place prevented it.
Nearly 200 locals had gathered. They shouted slogans against survey officials, pro crusher advocate and owners of the stone crusher. Tahasildar Guruprasad who realized the gravity of the situation ordered for suspension of survey work.
Tahasildar told the people that a meeting on the matter will be called in Brahmavar next week.
