Karkala, Jun 19: The information that attempts on the lives of zilla panchayat member, Sumith Shetty and Bajrng Dal convener, Mahesh Shenoy Bailoor, were made because of the fact that the contract killers had not been paid the full amount as agreed upon for the murder of Banglegudde Sulaiman, a well-known rowdy, has emerged as a shocking revelation. Praveen Kulal and Kodikere Vishwanath Poojary had reportedly led the gangs which flashed swords and fired at the ground during the attempt on the lives of the above two persons, as per information.

Sandeep and Deepak from Bailoor, Amith from Jodurasthe, Kabettu Vasu, and Sudheer from Nitte were injured during the above attack. A special police team formed for the purpose has already arrested four suspects in the case, Kodikere Vishwanath Poojary, Tilak Shetty, Chittaranjan, and Dhanraj. It is said that after taking them to custody, they were led to a secret location for questioning.
As per information, Somanath alia Somu from Tellar Road here IS in police custody in connection with the murder Banglegudde Sulaiman. The group which invited him to Bailoor on Wednesday at 4 pm after he said he needed Rs 5,000 for the treatment of his sick wife, had handed him over to police after the above incident. Somu's wife, in her complaint to deputy superintendent of police at Udupi, has complained that Somu was unnecessarily named in this case because he happens to be a Dalit.
In his complaint to the town station here, zilla panchayat member, Sumith Shetty, has said that Praveen Kulal and Kodikere Vishwanath Poojary had called him repeatedly on his cellphone to pose death threats. It is being opined that he was wrong in not informing the police about these death threats, and instead, bringing people together to repulse the attackers. The fact that people from far off places like Kabettu Nitte and Jodurasthe are among the injured goes to prove that he had put together people at Bailoor for counter attack. It is gathered that the police, based on these things, are mulling to take legal action against Sumith Shetty.
Sources in the police department said that leaders of some Hindu organizations had figured in the hit list of Banglegudde Sulaiman. Accordingly, the police had alerted Hindu organizations to be vigilant. Leaders of Hindu organizations, who were determined to put an end to this menace, hired Praveen Kulal to murder Sulaiman, it is said. It is also being claimed that the contract killers who executed the job entrusted to them, did not receive the amount agreed in full. In the presence of some Sangh Parivar leaders, it is said, a compromise was thereafter reached recently, as per which the contracted killers were to be paid the amount due to them as per the agreement. However, deadline given for this payment went by, and the promise was conveniently forgotten, it is learnt. The killers are also peeved at the fact that even after they were dragged to court, those who instigated them to commit this murder did not do anything to help, it is said.
