Udupi, Jun 19: While it is common to see worshiping the idols of deities or those who have sacrificed their lives for the country, a man has installed the bust of his late father in front of his house at Katpadi and worships him every day.
The son is 56-year old Indushekar Suvarna, resident of Katpadi Yenagudde. He is the seventh among eight children of late Soorappa and Jayanthi couple. He has been worshiping the bust of his father for the last seven years.
Indushekar has continued the profession acquired by his father and is running a small book shop at Katpadi. His father Soorappa Pandith hailed from Kalathur Garadimane Shirva and was a famous country doctor. He also served as a priest in Brahmabaidarkala Garadi. He died a natural death at the age of 78.
Indushekar's mother Jayanthi died last year. Indushekar celebrates the birth anniversary of his father every year on May 27 and serves meals to poor. He has decided to observe his mother's birth anniversary also on May 27 starting from this year. He said that he also has plans to instal the statue of his mother.
The bust is made out of black stone with a cost of Rs 1, 10,000. He offers water in the mornings and lights lamp in the evening. He says that his parents have taken pain to bring him up and he gets peace of mind when he worships them.
In a unique way, Indushekar gives out a message to today’s generation about respecting parents which seems to have reduced these days. This is a message to those who keep their parents away. This also inspires children to respect their parents.
