Mangalore, Nov 8: Namma Kudla, a local channel of the city, hosted Goodudeepa contest on the premises of Sri Gokarnatheshwar temple here on Wednesday November 7.
The contest was organized in the three categories; traditional, modern and models. Competitors from various places in and around the city displayed their innovative Goodudeepas in adequate numbers.
Goodudeepas displayed in the premises will indisputably find a permanent seat in the heart of the visitors as they exhibited aroma of the amalgamation of culture and creativity with the soft touch of modernity, said Sandhya, a visitor while speaking to Daijiworld correspondent.
Competitors left no stone unturned to adorn their goodudeepas in all the three categories. Another center of attraction among the displayed goodudeepas was that all the displayed goodudeepas were embellished with the non-exotic materials. The competitors worked wonder with easily available things like bamboo twigs, home made glue and pulses to shape their goodudeepas.
“Though those goodudeepas were made attractive with the help of welding and other patch-up things it could not emulate those goodudeepa which were made with the traditional approach. The comforting beauty of goodudeepas displayed in the modern category can not surpass the elegance of the traditional goodudeepas,” remarks a competitor who displayed his goodudeepa in the traditional category.
Another worth considering characteristics of the contest is that it was neither mere exhibition nor any other contest. Instead competitors used the contest as platform to promote ideals like religious tolerance, communal harmony, awareness about the folklore of the region, which have been perceived as the need of the hour.
The contest went beyond the frame work of contest cum exhibition in all sense as modernity was dressed up in tradition and tradition was presented in unusual manner.
